Sinkane: "Runnin'"

Sinkane: "Runnin"

A lot of excitement around the Stark office for this new album from DFA artist Sinkane. Mars is out now, and features the standout track "Runnin'" which got the video treatment from Philip Di Fiore. Sinkane is on tour with Yeasayer and Toro y Moi. Dates after the jump. Album is only $5.99 at iTunes as well!

Christopher Owens: "Here We Go"

I still don't understand the logic in going "solo" from a successful band that was essentially just YOU, and losing all the marketing cache and fan love from your band name. Whatever the reason, Christopher Owens, formally of Girls, dropped this new flute-addled track today, and announced Lysandre out January 14 on Fat Possum, not the home label of Girls (which was Beggars). Track is good, but perhaps not up to the high standards set on the last masterful Girls album. We'll see where this story goes I guess.

New Thao & The Get Down Stay Down

"Holy Roller" is taken from the forthcoming Thao & The Get Down Stay Down album We The Common out February 05, 2013 in North America and February 04, 2013 in rest of the world.

Angel Olsen: New Track and Tour

Taking a break from beers, buzz, and bands - it's nice to really dig into work again. Taking a reprieve from the cutting attack of Savages and the formidable arty dance pop of MØ - we've been enjoying the more autumnal melancholy of Angel Olsen for the past few days. XPN debuted a new track this AM, and we have it below. Olsen's excellent Half Way Home is out now, and she just announced a new run of Tour dates.

Savages Tonight

London's all female Savages are quickly building heat this week during CMJ along with others such as: Icona Pop, You Won't, Deap Vally, MSMR, MØ, Guards, and Kate Earl. With a definitive post-punk edge, solid mgmt team, and a reportedly piercing live show, these women seemed poised for US success - yet, we've all seen how that story can go. We'll be checking them out for the first time tonight at Glasslands w/ Dum Dum Girls.

New Haim: "Don't Save Me"

Saw this one subtly pop up around the internet today... hadn't heard much from the usual sources, but apparently this new Haim jam is getting some play over on Radio 1. Fantastic tune. Gonna be a great year! VIA I II

Little Bandit: "Heaven or Hell"

Everyone in Nashville knows each other, and they're all in (good) bands. You may recognize a lot of familiar faces in the above photo montage, from Tristen to Caitlin Rose, to Ponychase and more. Little Bandit is the new band from Alex Caress, younger brother of Jordan, who fronts Ponychase (a new addiction) and held down the rhythm section in Tristen's band on numerous tours and recordings. We're getting a heavy Dawes vibe, with touches of Sweetheart-era Byrds, and of course, a little Gram on the side. All that in addition to some rad beards and solid songwriting make Little Bandit a band to watch out for. Their self-titled Debut EP is out now.

Introducing Chris Cohen

Perusing the shelves at Other Music this past weekend, we stumbled upon Chris Cohen's debut record Overgrown Path out now on Captured Tracks. The handwritten store description name dropped Caribou and Emitt Rhodes in the same sentence, so we picked it up sight unseen (unheard?). The 37 year old music industry / touring musician veteran layers a psych haze over vocals reminiscent of Rhodes, but also perhaps with a hint of Ben Folds thrown in for flavor (in a very tasteful way). This pleasing and promising debut solo effort is cool and edgy enough to satisfy the Pitchfork crowd (where the below vid debuted today) while possessing a harmonic and melodic accessibility which will satisfy the casual listeners.

THIS FUCKING ROCKS!

New From Denmark: MØ

No to be confused with the excellent The DØ, , capitalizes on the pseudo R&B electro-pop sound so en vogue these days. A friend described the 23 year old's new track "Pilgrim" simply: "catchy tune, not as annoying as Grimes." MØ distills abstract melodic sensibilities into easily digestible nuggets, without losing any indie-swagger in the process. While seemingly possessing a better voice than both Grimes and Purity Ring (her closest peers), the true test will be the live show, which she will debut in New York on 10/19 at Yours Truly's Glasslands showcase. She's recording her debut album now.

Jason Isbell Live In Alabama

No autumn would be complete without a healthy dose of Jason Isbell tunes. Fresh off well deserved recognition for his beautiful tune "Alabama Pines" and his recent album 'Here We Rest' at the Americana Music Awards, Isbell and the 400 Unit are releasing a live album and a tour. While live albums don't usually excite enough for a full post, this collectionLive From Alabama (Nov 20) plays like a Jason Isbell greatest hits collection featuring his best songs from DBT and his solo career. Not to mention Isbell and the 400 Unit are deft live performers. Tracklisting and tour dates after the jump!

Stream Chrome Canyon's 'Elemental Themes'

It's pretty safe to say, you're not listening to much music that sounds like Chrome Canyon right now. The solo project of New York artist Morgan Z, Chrome Canyon delivers jagged mountains of synth, keys and drums, sounding like some sort of epic battle taking place in the Himalayan peaks and directed by Stanley Kubrick. That's really the best way we can describe it. If you do one thing besides stream their debut for Stones Throw at Hypem (10/9 release) - go see them live if you can. You will not regret it.

AC Newman: Shut Down The Streets

AC Newman is a stalwart and consistent songwriter, whether under his own moniker or with The New Pornographers. Newman's songs are almost always filled with powerful and sunny vocal blasts, even if the material doesn't always match the rosy melodies. On this first single from his new solo album Shut Down The Streets (10/9 Matador), Newman is backed up by his longtime and always faithful collaborator Neko Case.
