New Cloud Nothings: "I'm Not Part of Me"

Cloud Nothings pick up right where they left off after their fantastic last record 2012's Attack on Memory. Look kids! Melodies and hooks! Cloud Nothings are great songwriters, with an increasingly rare knack for writing memorable verses and choruses while maintaining a (slightly) slacker-edge and never sounding tired or stale. Here and Nowhere Else comes out April 1(Carpark/Mom+Pop).

Now this is more like it. We get it. The first single "No Future / No Past" was attention grabbing. It was different; a sludgey departure for these pop-hook minded guitar slingers. That song was cool - but you don't listen to it more than twice really. Today, we get a solid core album track in "Stay Useless" our second look from Cloud Nothings' Attack on Memory, out January 24 on Carpark. It's raw and new but reminds us of why we loved this Cleveland group in the first place.

We're back in action after a whirlwind tour of LA which found us in TV and recording studios, beach bonfires, desert hills, and sceney brunch locales. Yet, after all that it's great to be back amongst our beer-swilling, snarky, non-driving New York brethren. So on our walk to work this morning, with a fresh cup of Mud, this little gem came on to really sweeten the deal. Total Babes' Swimming Through Sunlight drops next week courtesy of the great folks at Old Flame Records. Total Babes have been getting some extra love from the press as it features members of Cloud Nothings, who if you remember, made a pretty excellent record themselves this year. Grab Total Babes' album next week, and throw that Cloud Nothings record back on your shuffle to hold you over till then. "Be So True" doesn't rewrite the lo fi pop songbook, but with its Wavves-inflected sound the tune captures a rock-solid hook, perfect for those Labor Day parties complete with 24oz novelty Coors Lights.

Cloud Nothings "Should Have" by carparkrecords

Much love to our new Twitter friends Cloud Nothings who this week released one of the more highly anticipated records of early 2011 with their self-titled offering on Carpark records. The above video for "Should Have" is sundrenched, nostalgic, and yeah – a little out. Hair and vomit? Gross. The song is great through, and while we haven’t yet consumed the record in its entirety, what we heard has been of equal quality to the single. They're touring the UK now, with a full string of dates coming up with Toro y Moi in the spring.

New Cloud Nothings: "Understand it All"

Could Nothings clean up their sound, but keep the same janglely garage-ethos of their previous work. As much as one can say this with such a warped vocal track, this new track really reminds us of the core values of many early Elvis Costello songs when he was still angry and punk. There's a sweetness here that can't be denied, and shit man, this song is just really fucking catchy. Their self-titled record comes out on Carpark Jan 25th!

Cloud Nothings Sign to Carpark

We always love to write about good things happening to good bands, and good labels. Today comes word that Cloud Nothings, one of the few bands out there very much deserving of their "buzz" status, have signed to Carpark Records and will release a compilation of all of their scattered releases over the course of 2010. Turning On comes out October 12. From the press release:

The incendiary Turning On EP, the ultra limited and rollicking Group Tightener seven inch single, and two killer songs from a super-hard-to-find cassette only release are now available in one handy package! These thirteen songs are the perfect introduction to the heavenly world of Cloud Nothings, and an ideal primer for the highly-anticipated full length this winter.
