Introducing: Foxygen

Foxygen, the newest signing to Jagjaguwar, purvey a careening, freewheeling style of vintage 70s post-rock, mixed with elements of radio friendly pop. The youth of this duo, Sam France (vocals, Olympia,Wash., 22 years old) and Jonathan Rado (guitar/keyboards, NYC, 22),  is strikingly apparent in their musical schizophrenia. Yet these ramshackle songs are enough for all of us to take notice. The easiest touch points here are The Velvet Underground and Ariel Pink - maybe a little Stones. The press release notes The Kinks in several places, but while perhaps Kinks-esque in some sonic elements, there is little in these first salvos (that we've heard) to suggest anything close to Kinks level songwriting. There is a youthful talent here, that when (and if) nurtured and A&R'd properly, seems capable of creating something great. A band to watch for sure. Their debut EP Take the Kids Off Broadway, drops July 24th.
