Tour Alert: The Dodos

We have been following The Dodos since our blog's inception in early 2008. Visiter was one of those albums that when released, made us re-evaluate where modern music was heading; it was also one of the first album reviews we posted to the site aside from Andrew's Best Of list. There was some magical musical-hybrid occurring on that album, which was well, startling to us. These California natives are going to melt your face with some summery dates starting with the Northside Festival in Brooklyn coming up! They are playing on June 14 so there will be no conflict with our awesome line up at Cameo.

I don't know what I am more excited for, the possibility of perhaps procuring myself a fresh pair of Blublocker sunglasses (Darlins' tour sponsors,) or that Those Darlins are hitting the road in support of their debut self-titled full-length (July 7 Thirty Tigers.) Cover art for the new album is pictured above. Probably the latter, but I love me some sunglasses. The Darlins screamed on to the scene after releasing the Wild Ones EP and are hooked up with some great dates coming down the line.

UK/US Tour Alert: Gringo Star

Atlanta's Gringo Star are heading across the pond for a spell, to tour in support of their recent release, 'All Y'all'. Joining forces with the Black Lips on certain dates, Gringo embodies the rawness of the Lips, but stays delicate with harmonized-choral choruses. The above video for "Come On Now" is gritty, garage-rock-pop, something reminiscent to shaving your Mo-Hawk or your chest hair.

Tour Alert: School of Seven Bells

Brooklyn's electro-pop trio, School of Seven Bells, are set to tour behind their mildly successful 2008 full-length debut, Alpinisms. We sure as hell enjoyed the record however, as it made the # 9 spot on Vince's Best of 2008 list. Though generating buzz in 2008, the band hit its stride heading into 2009, peaking at SXSW; Entertainment Weekly reported on the band's SX performance saying they produce, "...a sound that could just as easily put you in a reflective trance or make you dance for your life." Fine by us.

Tour Altert: The War On Drugs (Woo) + Hold Steady (Boo)

The War On Drugs are teaming up with Craig Finn & Co. touring the US in support of last year's Wagonwheel Blues. After releasing the album in 2008, War On Drugs plundered the UK and European regions, touring like muppets. Last year, Craig Finn listed -Wagonwheel Blues- in his top five albums of 2008 on Pitchfork and said "they made an amazing record that I was obsessed with for most of the year".*

Good for Craig, but I had this to say: "Phantasmal." The record made the number seven slot on my Best of 2008 list.

After the jump includes Spring US tour dates and the intoxicating and repeatable video for "Needle in Your Eye #16". I really love this band. The guitar sound, is insinderary...incendiary, anyway, way to go.

2008's release, Parc Avenue, found Canada's Plants and Animals adrift in quality accolades. Among those most notable, an 8.0 from the coveted Pitchfork camp. Tour Alert: The Decemberists, "A Short Fazed Hovel" 2009

The Decemberists are waiting in the wings, briefly peaking their heads out to promote their upcoming record, The Hazards of Love, releasing March 24 on Capitol. In their latest bout of music marketing, The Decemberists have announced what they are calling, "Phase One" of their LP-supporting tour interestingly titled, "A Short Fazed Hovel." Ticket pre-sale is already underway, but for those without the means, public sale occurs this Friday...the 13th! Who cares.

Interesting side note, The Decemberists will be playing Hazards in its entirety on NPR's showcase at SXSW March 18.

Still reeling from the Apple commercial = success of their 2008 release, Does You Inspire You, Brooklyn's dreamy Chairlift are set to embark on a North American tour. Chairlift join YACHT, PB&J and Sebastian Tellier on this tour.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit are gearing up to release their newest self-titled record Feb. 17 on Lightning Rod. In support of the LP, the band is heading out on a massive tour.
