Norah Jones Premieres the Unforgettable "Miriam" Video
This was immediately our favorite track on Norah Jones' gorgeous new Danger Mouse produced album Little Broken Hearts (Out now, Blue Note). "Miriam" is a standout among the many raw breakup songs on the album and may be one of the most salient condemnations of a person via song... ever? Here's the video to match.

Keeping Up With Norah Jones
Today Norah Jones announced the release of her new album Little Broken Hearts (Blue Note/EMI), a collaboration with the producer and musician Danger Mouse, dropping this spring. Of course, this partnership was formed during their collaboration on the much acclaimed album ROME. Jones and Danger Mouse share the songwriting credits and perform the majority of the instrumental parts; Jones on piano, keyboards, bass, and guitar, and Danger Mouse contributing drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and string arrangements. Norah Jones will be touring heavily around this release leading into the summer festival season. Jones advocates will lobby that pairing with Danger Mouse is the final step to establishing true critical "credibility" while detractors will argue that this album pairs a sleepy artist with an even sleepy-er producer. The test will be in the material!
On a more jovial, and Stark-focused front, we've been loving The Little Willies' (Jones' country side project) new album For The Good Times out now (Blue Note / EMI). As honest lovers of the original versions of these songs, we feel comfortable stating that there are not many artists out there who could do justice to these tunes, but somehow the Willies manage to capture the true nature of these songs without sounding hoakey (for the most part). Besides being ace pickers, these folks (Jones, Richard Julian, Jim Campilongo, Dan Rieser, Lee Alexander) truly love and understand these songs inside and out - and in the covers game, that makes all the difference. Highly recommended. The below video of "Jolene" is dedicated to my roommates, and our Christmas tree. RIP.

One Scoop, or Two? Beck, Santigold and Beastie Boys Remix Norah Jones
VH1 TV Shows Music Videos Celebrity Photos News & Gossip
Genius. Norah Jones' newest effort, The Fall, which drops tomorrow (Blue Note), is already chock full o' tracks (and nuts?) more suitable to the mature and musically-inclined Norah fan. Now, Blue Note records and Jones team up to take down (new Thao bandname?) the indie-blogosphere in one fell swoop. These goddamn name droppers. "Chasing Pirates" the clear standout and now ready-made video track (above) from this album, has had the floor opened on it -- a call to arms for all remix-friendly artists. Who answered the call? Beck, Santigold and The Beastie Boys (who actually chose a different track.) Booyah! The best just got better -- albeit more ambient, indie and, cool? They put skinny jeans on Norah songs. But you be the judge... in two or three weeks when these bad boys are clear to post. We have them. We just aren't leakers. Regardless, these remixes, three in number, are going to spread like wildfire across the blog world, major publications, your parents, you name it. Again, genius. Santi and Beck chose to lend their hands to the aforementioned keynote track, "Chasing Pirates," while the Beasties chose "That's What I Said" which was on an NCIS soundtrack? What the fuck? OK.

New Video: Norah Jones - "Chasing Pirates"
VH1 TV Shows Music Videos Celebrity Photos News & Gossip
You don't need to tell us, we know this video has been posted all over the place already, but we love Norah and this new album, so we felt obliged to post here as well. The Fall, Norah's newest effort, is a somewhat somber, storybook album with songs of love-loss, dreamlike states of mind and most notably, a desire to 'get back to Manhattan.' Norah Jones by no means departs from what made her famous though -- her beautiful song structures, great production and her unwavering-singing-perfection are ever-present. We like this album. A lot. It creeps up on you when you are least expecting it -- you never choose to listen to it, it chooses you. The jury is still out on the whole 'sailing building,' but Norah looks amazing and that's enough enjoyment for these scallywags.
The Fall drops Nov. 17 on Blue Note Records and is a must have of 2009.

Wille Nelson, Wynton Marsalis, Norah Jones Set List
.jpg)
We just returned from a lively, yet charmingly sloppy set from Willie Nelson & Wynton Marsalis with guest appearances (nine we believe) from Norah Jones. The trio, backed by Marsalis' amazing band, played 15 songs, most made famous by Ray Charles. The music Mr. Charles played was always rooted in country, blues and jazz --so the grouping of these three modern day interpreters of the Jazz/Country school was a bit of a no brainer. This concert, held in the Rose Theater at Jazz At Lincoln Center, was born of the success of Two Men with the Blues, a previous Nelson and Marsalis concert recorded in 2007 and released on CD by Blue Note Records in 2008. More review and full set list after the jump.
Initially, the arrangements of the tunes seemed a little wobbly, while everyone (except Nelson) tried to find their stride. Yet, the shakiness didn't last long given that these are arguably some of, if not THE best jazz musicians on the planet. The solo sections shined brightest, and Nelson caressed the verses as only he can do. Nelson played numerous solos, while Wynton even shared in a few of the vocal duties. Jones' songs were surprisingly, some of our favorites -- most notably "Come Rain or Come Shine." (Standards record people!). Marsalis was Marsalis... impeccable everything: high energy, precise in every note, playing the trumpet maybe better than anyone ever has. The first set was better than the second, which got a little sleepy (insert weak Norah Jones joke here).
Overall, the vibe was great as these world renowned musicians laughed, joked, and truly enjoyed the opportunity to play the songs of Ray Charles -- songs ingrained in the memory of each player and everyone in the audience who rose to give them several standing ovations.
Thanks to Blue Note Records for setting this up. Also, special shout out to drummer Ali Jackson who blows my mind every time.
