New Video:: George Maple - "Fixed"
George Maple. Yes, she sounds exactly like Jessie Ware. BUT, she has collaborated with Flume, is amazingly gorgeous (from what we can see online and not to say Jessie isn't) and her production has a bit more dark, low-end. Her new track "Fixed" has a video. It is above. You can enjoy or thumb your nose as you please. Don't really give a shit.

New Video: Mr. Little Jeans - "Runaway"
Been waiting on this one for awhile. Mr. Little Jeans is one of those mysterious acts that exploded on the scene with a big track/EP (see "Faking Gold" which we found via RCRD LBL and Neon Gold,) only to disappear...disappearance could be due to a multitude of reasons: lack of album plan, promo, and or music. But, it looks like we have a plan, music and promotion. Spin.com just premiered the new Mr. Little Jeans video for "Runaway" and her debut LP is due in August.

New Video: Mister Lies - "False Astronomy"
So to answer your question, yes, the blog died there for a bit during SXSW, but it is back. The above video for Mister Lies' "False Astronomy" is not usually something we would post; it is vibey, ethereal, a bit two dimensional. However, the clever use of a Joni Mitchell sample from her tune, "This Flight Tonight," intrigued us...this is a great background track, in a positive sense. Enjoy! (VIA ATG)

How Topical. New Penguin Prison Video - "Don't Fuck With My Money"
Say what you will about Penguin Prison as a band, but they just released a new video for "Don't Fuck With My Money." To little surprise, the video is focused around the 1%, because, you know, don't fuck with our money. We were early champions of this band and think there is still commercial potential for them somewhere...maybe after this record.

New Video: Laura Marling - 'Sophia"
I still don't know how I feel about this song from the UK's Laura Marling: on one hand, you have a Joni Mitchell-esque guitar ballad. Then, at about 2:40, the band kicks in and things get very AAA radio. So, I am kind of stumped...but Marling's talent for songwriting is evident. Her crystalline voice is unwaivering and well, I don't know, maybe I like the AAA vibe. You be the judge. Her third record, A Creature I Don't Know releases on Sept. 12 in the UK, Sept. 13 in the US.

If you are looking for a midday stress reliever, check out the newest video from Stark Artist to Watch, Lia Ices for "Daphne" above. Beautifully shot and initially, lusciously green, this video takes a turn toward creepy at minute 2:30 along with the melodic shift, but nonetheless stays captivating.
Ices' debut record for the Jagjaguwar label title, Grown Unknown was released on Jan. 25 and since, she has been turning the right heads; everyone from Spin, to L Magazine, to American Songwriter and more have weighed in and the verdict is genuine praise. New Video: And The Relatives -- "Hammer Down"

What can you say about Nashville? It is a veritable bevy of musical talent...Producing chart-topping number one artists, Country heroines, R&B soul singers, Rock legends and more. That is the Nashville people know: Broadway, Honky Tonk's, the Dolly Parton house visit, Music Row. But beneath all of that, is an amazing, underground community of musicians, most residing in East Nashville, that choose to make their mark off the beaten path. These renegade signer-songwriters, performers and musicians represent a sort of modern-day Bohemia, where they are rebelling against the established Country-music heritage of Nashville, while in tern, respecting it nonetheless.
Nashville's And The Relatives (ATR) are just such a band. You can find these guys working local day jobs and grabbing casual beers and whiskeys at the usual haunts, but there is a band there; a hard working group of guys making do with what they have at their desposal. Friends and relatives (no pun intended) are a strong source of collaboration in the ATR / East Nashville communities. Represented by Theory 8 Records, ATR join the likes of Caitlin Rose and De Novo Dahl, two Stark favorites. Available now, is ATR's newest full-length release, Green Machinery -- the video above is for a key track on the record titled, "Hammer Down" (available above) which was directed and edited by the bassists own brother. See? Enjoy what you hear, and remember to kick over rocks the next time your are in Nashville, because some of the best musicians choose to stay somewhat hidden there...even if not purposely.
