We've been talking for awhile about one of our favorite new bands of '08, Fight Bite. Coming to us this morning via Stereogum is the new video for "Swissex Lover," one of the best tracks off their album, Emerald Eyes. The band explains the video below:

It was made from layering archival commercials (from IBM etc.) and news reel footage. world war II to cold war era. there's some stop motion claymation in there too. the kind of low budget thing a band might have done when they were out of ideas in the 80's. what B- art projects are made of!

We don't feel like there's a need to make excuses for cheap videos. Musicians these days have little money as is...Don't think anyone would blame them for piecing together archived footage to make another marketing tool, or visual aid to add to their music. We posted it didn't we?

Finding a loaded showcase can make a night on the streets of CMJ much easier. It eliminates all the running around, half drunk and tired trying to find your way to the next show. That being said, here are two showcases where you could sit all night and relax. We know you won't - but you COULD.

The first is the Paw Tracks/Car Park/Force Field PR showcase at Le Poisson Rouge on Wednesday night (10/22). Highlights here are definitely new-comer Dent May and Beach House. Paw Tracks will release May's debut The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele February 2. Apparently he recorded this in a trailer in his home town of Taylor, Mississippi. Yeah, it's a bit of a wait, but his Serge Gainsbourg-inspired tropicalia is certainly worth it. Definitely one to watch for in 2009.

That brings us to a loaded Thursday evening (10/23) at Pianos for the Force Field PR showcase featuring Stark favorite Fight Bite, as well as Bell, Crystal Stilts, and Stars Like Fleas. Like we said, you could easily saddle up at Pianos for the entire evening. Texas duo Fight Bite's debut album Emerald Eyes is due October 28th. Emerald Eyes is filled with gauzy synths, lovely reverb-drenched vocals, and melancholy overtones. Put it on the list.

Yes, many people have recently been coming out in favor of the Denton, Texas duo Fight Bite - most notably GVB and Stereogum. After listening to these soft, delicate melodies and layers of keyboard sound, it's hard not to fall for them. Although alluding to Beach House's gauzy textures at times, it is the vocals and songs of founder Leanne Macomber that truly sets the two groups apart. Her flowing lyrical lines mixed with co-writer/instrumentalist Jeff Louis' production techniques and singing, produce a hazy analog-ambiance that perfectly complements the melancholy and beauty of Fight Bite's sound. Bells, drums and xylophone float in and out of the duo's harmonies. The drum sounds and keyboard rhythms seem charmingly amateur at times, but they guide this collection of songs and give the record a unique character. Fight Bite will certainly be one to watch this fall as their self-released debut Emerald Eyes is due on 10/28 with tour dates to come.
