Cloud Nothings Sign to Carpark

We always love to write about good things happening to good bands, and good labels. Today comes word that Cloud Nothings, one of the few bands out there very much deserving of their "buzz" status, have signed to Carpark Records and will release a compilation of all of their scattered releases over the course of 2010. Turning On comes out October 12. From the press release:

The incendiary Turning On EP, the ultra limited and rollicking Group Tightener seven inch single, and two killer songs from a super-hard-to-find cassette only release are now available in one handy package! These thirteen songs are the perfect introduction to the heavenly world of Cloud Nothings, and an ideal primer for the highly-anticipated full length this winter.

Dan Deacon - "Get Older"

Dan Deacon's been making a resurgence in the news of late, most notably with his large 15-piece live ensemble, which is by some accounts, hit or miss. For the most part we love our Dan Deacon here at Stark, and we're especially excited about his new record Bromst coming out March 24(Carpark.) While his bold but slightly uneven debut Spiderman of the Rings featured all electronic instruments, Bromst will feature a melding of acoustic and electric. Hopefully this will give his compositions a warmer feel and make them applicable to more non-dancefloor related activities. Bromst contains sounds from the player piano, marimba, glockenspiel, vibraphone, live drums, winds and brass. Deacon also drops a split 12" with Adventure on January 27th. Finding a loaded showcase can make a night on the streets of CMJ much easier. It eliminates all the running around, half drunk and tired trying to find your way to the next show. That being said, here are two showcases where you could sit all night and relax. We know you won't - but you COULD.

The first is the Paw Tracks/Car Park/Force Field PR showcase at Le Poisson Rouge on Wednesday night (10/22). Highlights here are definitely new-comer Dent May and Beach House. Paw Tracks will release May's debut The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele February 2. Apparently he recorded this in a trailer in his home town of Taylor, Mississippi. Yeah, it's a bit of a wait, but his Serge Gainsbourg-inspired tropicalia is certainly worth it. Definitely one to watch for in 2009.

That brings us to a loaded Thursday evening (10/23) at Pianos for the Force Field PR showcase featuring Stark favorite Fight Bite, as well as Bell, Crystal Stilts, and Stars Like Fleas. Like we said, you could easily saddle up at Pianos for the entire evening. Texas duo Fight Bite's debut album Emerald Eyes is due October 28th. Emerald Eyes is filled with gauzy synths, lovely reverb-drenched vocals, and melancholy overtones. Put it on the list.
