Now this is more like it. We get it. The first single "No Future / No Past" was attention grabbing. It was different; a sludgey departure for these pop-hook minded guitar slingers. That song was cool - but you don't listen to it more than twice really. Today, we get a solid core album track in "Stay Useless" our second look from Cloud Nothings' Attack on Memory, out January 24 on Carpark. It's raw and new but reminds us of why we loved this Cleveland group in the first place.

Cloud Nothings "Should Have" by carparkrecords

Much love to our new Twitter friends Cloud Nothings who this week released one of the more highly anticipated records of early 2011 with their self-titled offering on Carpark records. The above video for "Should Have" is sundrenched, nostalgic, and yeah – a little out. Hair and vomit? Gross. The song is great through, and while we haven’t yet consumed the record in its entirety, what we heard has been of equal quality to the single. They're touring the UK now, with a full string of dates coming up with Toro y Moi in the spring.

New Cloud Nothings: "Understand it All"

Could Nothings clean up their sound, but keep the same janglely garage-ethos of their previous work. As much as one can say this with such a warped vocal track, this new track really reminds us of the core values of many early Elvis Costello songs when he was still angry and punk. There's a sweetness here that can't be denied, and shit man, this song is just really fucking catchy. Their self-titled record comes out on Carpark Jan 25th!

NPR is now offering Dan Deacon's newest and most accessible release to date, Bromst. Album highlights include, "Paddling Ghost," "Build Voice," "Of the Mountains" and more. The album sounds huge, with lots of glockenspiel, massive choral harmonies, tribal drum accompaniments and just Deacon being Deacon, in all his hand-knit-sweater-glory.
