Fellow music blogger, Pop Tarts Suck Toasted, posted this gorgeous video of a female duo, Heathers, hailing from Dublin, Ireland who released their debut record, Here, Not There in 2008. We are quickly reminded of Sweden's YouTube starlets, First Aid Kit, whose Fleet Foxes covers put them on the blogosphere's radar. There is no substitute for in-the-flesh performances devoid of electronics; the music is honest, because if you can't sing, your a limp sail flapping in the wind. No one likes limp sails. Enjoy this video with your Thursday morning coffee, sleep deprivation, or hangover where applicable.

The Felice Brothers: "Run Chicken Run"

We're still processing a big weekend of music and sun including an amazing Crocodiles show at Pianos on Saturday night... so for now, enjoy some work that other folks have done.

Jon Pareles gives a nice take on the fantastic new Felice Brothers record in the New York Times today. Yonder Is the Clock comes out this Tuesday... certainly should be on the top of any 4/7 shopping list. Read the review HERE.

Phoenix played SNL. Phoenix's new record Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix comes out May 26th. For what it's worth, the record has been far from impressing us of late. Check out "Lisztomania" HERE and "1901" HERE. They also played their most popular tune (ok, also maybe one of their best) "Too Young" during the credits.

Thanks to Pop Tarts Suck Toasted for posting these new Okkervil tracks from their upcoming album The Stand-Ins due Sept. 9.

Well, it's still Okkervil River. "Pop lie" incorporates Okkervil's standard musical structure of hard-strumming riff-rock releasing into an easily repeatable and uncannily-catchy chorus. "Lost Coastlines" showcases Okkervil's ability to infuse double-time pop lines and lyrical balladry, combining amid an eclectic instrumental mix. Strings, mandolins, reverberating banjos, and tambourines join Will Sheff's falsetto and group 'la-la-la' harmonies creating a rich, full sound. The production is cleaner and more pronounced in these tunes, which detracts from the sweeping nature captured in The Stages Names. As noted by Pop Tarts, the tracks sound very much like a continuation of its aforementioned predecessor, but nonetheless intriguing.
