Site and Sound Does Mountain Man

Site & Sound: Mountain Man from VanLou Media on Vimeo.

[mp3] Mountain Man: "Soft Skin"

This one's a no brainer. We love Mountain Man, we love Site and Sound. The two got together recently to film a piece that perfectly captures the trio's delicate, yet immensly powerful vocal talents, and the character of three women perfectly at home in what they love to do. The video also debuted at another Stark fave, blog Microphone Memory Emotion.

TONIGHT: Those Darlins @ Mercury Lounge

Photo: David McClister

You know we've had a complicated past with Those Darlins. But after our initial experience, the three Murfreesboro Darlins practiced the shit out of their instruments and harmonies and wrote one of the dark horse top 5 records of the year. Tonight, they make their triumphant return to New York, with a headlining slot at the Mercury Lounge to celebrate the release of their self-titled album, which is out everywhere now. They also play tomorrow night at Southpaw with We Are Country Mice and The So So Glos. Our favorite new-ish blog Microphone Memory Emotion sat down with the Darlins for a great interview. Check it out HERE.
Q. Tell me about a day in the life, what’s your normal routine?
Nikki (baritone ukelele): crawl out of my cocoon, sometimes shower, taxidermy, listen to records, sew, run errands/cast spells with our friend Kevin, maybe lounge in our kiddie pool and shoot the b.b. gun, practice, do some drinking, fall asleep somewhere.

Monday Morning Aggregation

We're still processing a big weekend of music and sun including an amazing Crocodiles show at Pianos on Saturday night... so for now, enjoy some work that other folks have done.

Jon Pareles gives a nice take on the fantastic new Felice Brothers record in the New York Times today. Yonder Is the Clock comes out this Tuesday... certainly should be on the top of any 4/7 shopping list. Read the review HERE.

Our new friend at the fantastic Microphone Memory Emotion has a review of Brooklyn's Tanlines and the cumbia explosion that was the Zizek show on Saturday at Santos Party House. Check it out HERE.

The beleagured myspace music is featuring the much buzzed about new record from the Doves that comes out tomorrow. Stream the whole album HERE.

Phoenix played SNL. Phoenix's new record Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix comes out May 26th. For what it's worth, the record has been far from impressing us of late. Check out "Lisztomania" HERE and "1901" HERE. They also played their most popular tune (ok, also maybe one of their best) "Too Young" during the credits.

Pop Tarts Suck Toasted has a effusive review of the new St. Vincent record Actor, which leaked this weekend. Certainly looking forward to hearing that. Read the review HERE.
