NEON INDIAN - HEART : DECAY

Following the widespread praise splashed out in Neon Indian's Alan Paloma following his 2009 debut Psychic Chasms, it's little wonder he decided to hole up in an efficiency studio in Helsinki to write and record his new LP Era Extraña. The tracks were penned during Finland's short solstice days and the desolate surroundings were certainly not lost on Paloma.

The sessions yielded album-defining the three-part instrumental "Heart: Attack, Heart: Decay, and Heart: Release." It's a cinematic blend of liquid washed guitars, 8-bit bleeps and looped conversation that seem like the may have fallen right out of Paloma's head and into his laptop.

Stark's Bits of Whatever and a Note

Here are little bits of whatever that survived the inbox purge of SXSW blasts, no-name remixers and other sub-par music submissions. For as those close to the Stark camp know,  things just picked up vocationally as well as extracurricularly. As such, our posting has been limited and for that we apologize. For now, we will give you what we can, and hopefully start making a few knots when the winds shift.

Little bits of whatever (week of 03/8):

• Megafaun + Tallest Man = cover of Bon Iver's "Creature Fear" shown above. I don't have enough time to call out Bon here, so I'll leave that for my black list post when it comes to fruition.
• Neon Indian drops his newest single "Sleep Paralyist"  co-produced by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor on Green Label Sound's website.
• Echo & The Bunnymen kick off a string of US dates including a 5/1 date in NYC at Irving Plaza and also release a new single, "Porxy".
• Our good friends, Ezra Furman and the Harpoons announced their SXSW showcases w/ Pretty Good Dance moves and actually got Stark to read something tagged "SXSW"
• Billboard.com releases the second piece of SXSW mail we open -- their "20 Artists to Watch for at SXSW" list and it's embarrassing. She & Him is on there. Enough said. BLACK LIST!

Soco and lime shots anyone? Come on let the frat out -- it's Friday. Increasingly-buzzed about Neon Indian offer up this Jose Piero cover of "Mi Viejo" in the Fader hometown bar series -- calm, intimate, nice. Couldn't even tell they were in Texas could you? Is that a veiled shot at Texas? You be the judge. Equipped with a lilting acoustic guitar and fantastically-awesome Casio keyboard, the fellas from Neon Indian are exposing their inner musician here. Their newest record, Psychic Chasms is due out on Oct. 13 via Lefse. Enjoy.

White Hinterland Tour Behind New Songs

As Neon Indian ushers out the Summer, White Hinterland helps bring in the Fall. The duo of Casey Dienel and Shawn Creeden will hit the road touring behind a new live set up and behind several new songs. White Hinterland's perfectly autumnal Luniculaire EP and darker LP Phylactory Factory provide a wonderful base for the newer material to be presented here. The press releases describes the live show as such:

Casey will be using Wurlitzer, synths, electric ukulele, loops and vocals, while Shawn will be contributing acoustic and electric percussion, cassettes, loops, deep beats, pool sounds, static, and the Vietnamese black box. Expect a layered, textured sound that steps outside of anything previous White Hinterland performances have been before. Centered around Casey’s vocals and pure sound, rather than defined instrumentation, these shows will offer a glimpse into the new directions White Hinterland are exploring on their upcoming recordings.

As we reach the waning weeks of summer we get a slew of tour dates from Neon Indian, the band who delivered one of the best records of the past three months. Psychic Chasms (10/13 Lefse) delivers a hazy pop sweetness that while adhering to current musical trends manages to stay wholly unique. Alan Palomo the artist behind the like-minded and equally awesome Vega, uses his lo-fi psychedelic production and writing techniques to craft songs that sound as nostalgic as a late summer afternoon, yet thumping enough to play at a late night party. This morning we get another new track from the highly anticipated Neon Indian album Psychic Chasms, which drops 10/13 on Lefse. We posted "Terminally Chill" and the song "Deadbeat Summer" is also out and about as well. It's clear that Neon Indian, which is VEGA's Alan Palomo's project with video artist Alicia Scardetta, is making some of the best druggy psych elctro music out there today. (via p4k)

Ok, so this post really has nothing to do with the 4th of July and everything to do with Neon Indian. MP3s have been floating around from Psychic Chasms their new LP coming October 13th via their new label Lefse. The newest mp3 "Terminally Chill" is above. An elusive new project from composer Alan Palomo. Neon Indian delivers equal parts synthetic nostalgia, Dreampop lullabies, and grinding guitar noise to create something eerier than the sum of its parts. Forged after a hazy winter gathering in Texas, this initial batch of tracks were the result of field recordings, record samples, a collection of bizarre synth sounds.
