HEALTH Announce Remix Album, Disco2

On June 22, HEALTH will release their newest remix album, Disco2, on Lovepump Records. After these D.I.Y. LA-scenesters reemerged on the scene with Get Color last year, more of the mainstream press outlets began to take notice. Us Starkians were super pumped to catch their much-buzzed about live show at Jelly NYC's Williamsburg Waterfront as well (photos here.) As noted in that show review, some of us here are more into the electro-remixes (see Disco) than their straight-ahead face-melting album sounds... so, Shabam! Remix album number two...uh, Disco2...right. This newest, sure-to-be-a-fist-pumper-LP features reworkings of Get Color by Javelin, Crystal Castles, Salem, Gold Panda and more.

I've a golden ticket. I've got a golden chance to make my way. Yeah, so Willy Wonka references aside, HEALTH will be releasing a new album titled, GET COLOR on Sept. 8. Inside the pressed and packaged records will be 66 colored tickets each denoting a different prize if received. Gold is obviously the best, being a three night trip to LA -- LA LA Land. Dig the hot new single from GET COLOR,  "Die Slow," above. We caught HEALTH at the pool parties the other weekend, enjoyed their music and got some fantastic photos.

This will be the band's second full-length album. They are really pushing the capitalization theme. That's fine for now. We will oblige.

We're Back.

Yeah that's right. We're back. Full of caffeine, energy, and an undying desire to bring to you, our most beloved reader, all the cool, fashionable, and downright tantalizing music coverage available on the web today. We also now have T-Shirts. Thanks Tim! While all of the above is decidedly not true (we don't cover that much cool stuff), we are back and do have a litany of things ready and waiting for us to dispel via blog. Below are some things we hope to get to this week. Not bloody likely though.    

We're going to continue to bring you news, updates and profiles of bands that are playing the fully stacked and undeniably awesome After The Jump Fest happening at Littlefiled August 28th, 29th, and 30th. Bring it. 

We've never loved the Black Crowes as much as other folks have. Yet, our ears perked when we heard they recorded their newest album (a double) at Levon Helm's home studio in Woodstock. Amidst the cliched, flower-power revival gongshow that has been this anniversary of the Woodstock festival, it will be interesting to see where the legacy of that generation stands today, and how it translates through the rock of some of 2009's most willing disciples. 

Our sites are set on Friday for what promises to be a spectacular evening with the epic, melancholy rock of The Antlers. While we've seen them numerous times this year, and their record Hospice will be in my Top 5 of the year, we've never seen them in an intimate venue like Mercury. See you there. Be sure to get your tix early. 

Furthermore to the point of our reemergence from the land of cocktails, fish, and sun, we will have coverage of new releases from HEALTH, Taken by Trees, Port O'Brien, Lissy Trullie, Mayer Hawthorne, Brendan Benson and Band of Skulls (not so new). 

This is only the tip of the iceberg of what we may or may not be covering. Not to mention all the new stuff coming in this week. We'll do our damnedest though. It will be nice to see all of you music people again around the citay. So, until then...

Williamsburg Waterfront Part III

Since we're relatively new to the whole photo pit thing, it was pretty great being on the front lines of the legit mayhem that was the Black Lips portion of Sunday's set at the Williamsburg Waterfront. As seen in many photos and videos on other blogs already, there was much stage diving, security guard breaching and general bouts of chaos. It was refreshing to see fans going nuts to music. It was almost like 1995 in there. The excitement did much to cover the lull from some of the new tunes that you know we're not the biggest fans of. They're not bad --just boring. Yet, there is really nothing better than a Black Lips live set. Urine or no urine. Preferably, the latter.

Health opened the festivities with a thrashing set that was way louder than expected, but certainly welcome. One note guitar shedding, effects pedals, noise, and general volume characterized what was a vibrant and fantastically messy set from the band. While we'll still opt for the remix CD over their studio record, the set was pretty solid from a band that we're only marginal fans of.

After the Black Lips, it rained and we left. Then the headliners ...Trail of Dead were canceled anyway! They'll be at All Points West this weekend though. Until next week... which is fixing to be maybe the highlight of the summer -- No Age (!), Deerhunter and Dan Deacon. See you there. Photos after the jump!

Black Lips: "Drugs" Video, Free Show This Weekend

While we may not love all of the Black Lips' new album, this video for the song "Drugs" is pretty great, and the tune is one of the better songs off the album. Sorry kids, there's just too much filler on that record for us. The Black Lips will be part of a great bill this weekend at the Williamsburg Waterfront which includes Health, ... Trail of Dead and Groupo Fantasma. (via TMS)

Start Your Day Tripping w/ Bradford Cox

Pitchfork TV posts the exclusive Bradford Cox behind the scenes look at this year's Pitchfork music festival -- for those without the means to make it to said festival (cough Stark), Cox does well to transport viewers back in time, and back stage. Enjoy Pitchfork TV's whimsical camera work as they pan the chests of HEALTH band members revealing their homemade T-shirts. Also take note of the multitude of hoarse voices surrounding the Khan camp, tour manager Kristen Klein included. I recently read that Fleet Foxes plans to adopt the new Khan-established moniker of the "Fleet Somethings..." You're better than that Khan. Watch Dean Spunt of No Age's face as Cox provides a warm embrace asking about the new Batman movie -- so awkward. Bon Iver also makes an appearance here.
