New Ebony Bones - "The Musik"

UPDATE: Apologies for the commercial. No wonder no one cares about MTV. Assholes.

We got to McCarren Pool early last summer to make sure we caught Ebony Bones' US live debut. Our friends from across the pond have been going on about her decidedly international rock/funk/hip hop inspired sound for a long time now. It seems Ms. Bones is now beginning to ramp up her US marketing campaign in anticipation of a full LP release, Bone of My Bones, coming this fall. The video excerpt has nice MTV backing, and is shooting for a viral fan-meets-artist appeal. Honestly, the jury is still out in our camp on Ebony Bones. There are aspects of her street-party live show, pulsing rhythms and driving vocals that we clearly love. Yet, some of the costumes, rock guitars and dancers seem like an affected attempt to hide the fact that the music really isn't all that different from an MIA/Santogold mash-up minus the gun shots, hooks and bud light. It's really a day to day thing here. Certainly an artist to watch though. We'll see how the full-length comes out. Stay tuned.

New N.A.S.A mp3 "Whatchadoin", Tour Dates, Album Release

Here is another taste from the D.J. Duo of Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon recording under the N.A.S.A moniker. It's become well known by now that their upcoming record The Spirit of Apollo features 250,000 guests* and looks to be one of the more interesting releases of the first quarter. Anti releases said record on February 17. The above track features the oft-paired and compared duo of MIA and Santogold (Santi?). Taking the lead in the verses are the Diplo approved hip hop group Spank Rock with a little guitar wah thrown in by Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There is a NY CD release party Jan 29 at Le Poisson Rouge on Jan 29 and another in LA on the 27th. More dates after the jump.

Secret Myspace Ting Ting's Show in Philly on Halloween

Ting Tings - Great DJ - mp3
Philadelphia fans of the Ting Tings (what up Mom!) will be delighted to know that the catchy pop duo have just announced a "secret" myspace show at the Barbary on Halloween. Doors open at 7:30pm and fans are encouraged to wear their best cliche rock star costumes. Along with MGMT and the Black Kids, the Ting Ting's have had quite the successful year for a break-out band - most of that success came from licensing (cough, iPod commercial) but that's the way things roll these days just ask Santogold.

The Very Best Mixtape Available NOW

Hey folks - although we haven't posted on it until now, we've been highly anticipating the full mix tape from Esau Mwamawaya and Radioclit aka The Very Best, featuring Ms. Preggers M.I.A, Santogold, Vampire Weekend, BLK JKS, Ruby Suns and more. GVB has been hyping this for while now, and we gotta say he hit it on the head with this one. It was supposed to come out Nov 1, but it's here today instead, and yeah, it's really good. Speaking of mixtapes - if you don't have the Diplo/Santogold and Diplo/M.I.A records - make you sure pick those up post-haste.

Tom Waits, M.I.A, Karen O, Kanye, Byrne, Santogold & More, To Guest on New N.A.S.A Record - Spirit of Apollo

Yeah - you read that right. Pretty insane. Due to time constraints (a.k.a our real job) we're just going to crib from the press release below. Certainly something to keep your eye out for in '09. Actually - it will probably be pretty hard for you to miss this one. Tracklist after the jump.
N.A.S.A. (North America/South America), and their worldwide debut The Spirit of Apollo is set to be released on Anti- on February 17. 2009. N.A.S.A is an ongoing creative collaboration between two lifelong music aficionados, Squeak E. Clean ad DJ Zegon, and their friends, friends of friends and musical heroes.

While N.A.S.A. stands for North America/South America and contains a number of superstar artists from both coasts of the US, it is about as far from a tension-building geographical showdown as a record can get. Rather, The Spirit of Apollo was born with the righteous goal of bringing people together through music and art, and that is exactly what masterminds Squeak E, Clean and DJ Zegon have done.

Unexpected collaborations abound on the eighteen track release. Tom Waits growls over Kool Keith, Karen O taunts while Ol' Dirty Bastard gives shout-outs to Wu Tang and N.A.S.A from the grave, and David Byrne, Chuck D and others expound on the evils of "Money." In spite of the range of performers, the pairings seem organic, inspired and make perfect sense on the first listen, never coming off as ironic or impulsive.

N.A.S.A. The Spirit of Apollo tracklist:

1. "Intro"
2. "The People Tree" (feat. David Byrne, Chali 2na, Gift of Gab,& Z-Trip)
3. "Money" (feat. David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge, & Z-Trip)
