Videos We All Can Enjoy

The holiday's are upon us in more ways than one-- some of you may already have the luxury of being home, while some of us will be working until the somewhat bitter end. Either way, there is snow on the ground, lights in the trees and a festive atmosphere everywhere. Our Best of 2009 lists (Mine, Matt, Andrew, Winston) are all hung on the blog with care and we are getting one day closer to a Partridge in a pear tree.

We have been sitting on a few videos from artists that graced our "Best Of" lists for a while now, but it seems like the right time to watch them again. First we have "Edge of Our Lives" from the Holiday Shores (#7) -- if you can avoid seizing, than you will love this video and this fantastically cheerful song. Get Columbus'd the Whim now if you haven't already.

We've been following this Florida band for several months now and managed to catch them at a sparsely populated but excellent early show at Pianos before they shot uptown to play a private event at the Spin offices. Their album Columbus'd the Whim comes out August 4th on Twosyllable Records. It's jangely, analog sounding, and yes, warm and summery with tons of reverb. We already posted the first single "Phone's Don't Fued." Today you get the second single "Edge of Our Lives" - happy Friday.

Catching up on some tasty visual nuggets after a hectic week on the blog and in the ole' personal sphere, but as the frat kids say: no excuses, play like a champion. We'll start you off with one of our favorite new comers of the summer, the tropically infused Florida band Holiday Shores. So, as it's still raining, put this on and enjoy the warm digital breeze.

After posting about Holiday Shores and taking a few spins through their promising new record Columbus'd The Whim, we decided to take a gander at them at Pianos a few weeks ago. It was an early set (7:30) that these Florida kids played before heading off to headline a private party at Spin Magazine's head-quarters. How posh. The set was good not great, and besides the high quantity of great looking people (hot fanbase I guess) the show was fairly unremarkable. Yet, there is something about this band and their record that keeps us coming back. They posses a youthful sloppiness and produce sunny melodies hidden by dirty guitars and vintage keyboard sounds. Holiday Shores have the potential to be that band blog-buzz and hype push into the limelight before they are fully ready; but what band would ever turn that down? It remains to be seen how the rest of the blog community takes to the band, but for now, we'll let their music do the talking and leave it up to y'all. Certainly some youngsters with great potential, songwriting chops and charm to spare.

Summer is No Myth - Holiday Shores

Today marks another entry in our quest for the best summer playlist. We're not talking about "Thong Song" here, we're thinking more along the lines of Little Joy's record from last year, The Underwater People's Compilation from this year, or pretty much any collection of David Byrne and or Marisa Monte. From what we've heard of the band Holiday Shores, their melodies are relaxed and catchy as shit, with loping rhythms and squawks and squeals of noise thrown in at just the right places. Holiday Shores are the brainchild of 21-year-old Nathan Pemberton who happens to live on Holiday Shores Ct. somewhere near the beach in Florida's panhandle. The band consists of Pemberton's friends who, according to the press release, "spent months recording together in Pemberton's living room obsessing over vintage gear and perfecting their captivating hooks, and heart-warming melodies." Sure. Sign us up. Holiday Shores' debut record Columbus'd The Whim comes out August 4 on Twosyllable Records. They are playing a ton of NY shows and are at the Cake Shop tonight.
