Summer Camp Announce Welcome To Condale

It's been a long time coming, but we're excited to announce that long time Stark faves Summer Camp will be dropping their debut full length Welcome to Condale on November 8th in North American via Summer Camp's own Apricot Records, an imprint of much loved London based indie Moshi Moshi Records. As a preview of the new material, on September 13th they'll digitally release the new single "Better Off Without You" streaming below.

Summer Camp (Jeremy Warmsley and Elizabeth Sankey) purvey nostalgic and hyper-melodic 80s pop that would sound perfectly acceptable in period dramas like 16 Candles or The Breakfast Club. That's certainly not a knock on this band (especially given John Hughes' great taste) good songs are good songs, and while we haven't yet heard this full length - their solid track record of past singles speaks for itself.

Our love for past Summer Camp tunes has been fairly evident, so when we caught their new, slightly darker and more haunting tune over at GVB today, we were certainly pleased. Grab the new tune above, and keep your eye out for their debut LP, produced by Steve Mackey of Pulp, which drops at an undisclosed time, on an undisclosed label. Highly informative day, clearly.

The most excellent trio Wave Pictures have announced that their new album Beer in The Breakers will drop in the US April 19th. From the press release:

True to their lo-fi aesthetic the band recorded the album live to tape in one day at friend and frequent collaborator Darren Hayman's (of British band Hefner) house in Walthamstow, England... The songs featured on Beer In The Breakers embrace Tattersall's love of E Minor ("Now Your Smile Comes Over In Your Face" and "Beer In The Breakers"), bass player Franic's favorite clothing brand ("Blue Harbour" - a tale of love in Coney Island), and are inspired by band favorites like Otis Rush ("Blink Back A Tear").

Here's a brand new tune from Summer Camp's upcoming EP Young which comes out next month on Moshi Moshi. It's a wistful synth-laden tune used as a backdrop for a classic 80s story of teen angst, unfulfilled passion and cigarettes. While a little bit darker than John Hughes would've liked probably, there's no doubt he would've appreciated the tune and loved the homage to an era that we 90s kids can only live through film and music vids like these.

Moshi Moshi Comes to the US

Famed London-based indie label Moshi Moshi (Hot Chip, The Rakes, Bloc Party, The Drums, Kate Nash, Au Revoir Simone, other amazingness) has come to the states with two excellent records that even the staunchest American xenophobe can't help but love. The first record being an amazing offering from Slow Club titled Yeah, So. coming out March 30. On the iPhone with incessant repeating since its arrival Yeah, So. is an impressive amalgamation of Kings of Convenience (don't call it twee) indie-pop and a more dirty power-pop sound reminiscent at times of Teenage Fanclub. As contributor Tim Emmerick notes during a guest stint in the "office" "it kind of sounds like you took the Moldy Peaches and gave them a bath." Well put good sir.
The second offering is a double CD package comprised of two separate LPs from The Wave Pictures entitled Instant Coffee Baby and If You Leave it Alone coming out April 27th. At times recalling elements of The Veils, but with a slight punk edge, this trio from the tiny village of Wymeswold are distinctly English in many ways. They seem a continuation of the linage set in motion by The Clash and Paul Weller yet, there is a quieter literary side that emerges from time to time, (especially in the lyrics) that immediately brings Will Sheff and Okkervil River to mind. All of these are great touch points, in our opinion at least. Also there is some surf guitar here and there. WIN. Spin named If You Leave it Alone one of the "10 Best Albums You Might Have Missed in 2009."

Both The Wave Pictures and Slow Club have made stand-out records that shine on their artistic merits alone, but coupled with Moshi Moshi's tastemaker status and prestigious name, both bands seemed destined for critical acclaim in their new home across the pond. Welcome friends.
