Jay Reatard Dead at 29

As divisive as Jay Reatard was at times in some spheres of the indie rock community, he was unquestionably loved by many, and a stalwart talent still in the infancy of his quickly burgeoning career. While I feel in no way qualified to write a proper tribute to the man or musician, I can merely say that losing any member of such a tight knit and hard working group of musicians is always painful, and it's extremely sad to loose a songwriter, or any person for that matter, at such a young age. Our thoughts go out to his family and all of the musicians, labels, and writers who worked with him. His most recent home, Matador Records, issued this statement today:
We are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., aka Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we've ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We're honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly.
