Up to No Good

San Fran's Birds and Batteries bring it from pretty much every genre. Widely hailed as "psych pop" there's a lot more at play on their new EP Up To No Good which came out this November. Somehow in 5 tracks this band can channel the Americana nature of Neil Young, while stacking up layers of synth and adding elements of funk and touches of traditional post-punk songwriting. At times this schizophrenic approach leaves one wishing they picked one genre and stuck with it - but for the most part this genre blending works to great success and gives the band their own identity. Absolutely worth checking out and keeping your eye on in 2010.
