On The Safest Ledge

Looks like we've got a nominee for Song Of The Year on our hands: Copeland has released an mp3 of "On The Safest Ledge", from their forthcoming You Are My Sunshine LP. The Florida-based indie rock band recently jumped ship from Columbia Records to the smaller Tooth And Nail (a natural fit), who will release the quartet's fourth studio album on October 14. We can't wait for it. "On The Safest Ledge" is a stunning piece of pop music, highlighted by lead singer Aaron Marsh's trademark angelic voice and elegant melodies. It's got a classic chorus, with bending harmonies capped by a major-to-minor change that's sonically perfect. Little-known singer Rae Cassidy Klagstad joins for the song's bridge, and her Eisley-like vocals are the right complement to Marsh's. Judging from previews, You Are My Sunshine should hearken back to Copeland's debut, the beloved-by-many Beneath Medicine Tree from 2003. Hear "On The Safest Ledge" via SPIN Online.
