Easily one of my favorite records of the year is the debut We Brave Bee Stings and All from Kill Rock Stars artist Thao and her band The Get Down Stay Down. It is full of charming, summery, pop choruses and dancing rhythms, backed by lyrics about death, break ups and other dark things. The record manages to hold this looming edge while being extremely fun to listen to. Here is the new video for one of my favorite tracks "Swimming Pools". It's vintagey (a word?) and shows just a bit of how badass Thao can be live. Despite the band's long-winded name, The Get Down Stay Down are all fantastic musicians, and one of them is even rocking the widely sought-after Kill Rock Stars hoodie. Thao is now on tour with Rilo Kiley and Benji Hughes- next gig: Terminal 5 in NY June 2 and 3. Dig it.
