Thoughts From My Lunch Hour: Am I Going to Hell for Not Enjoying Bob Dylan Live?

THOUGHTS FROM MY LUNCH HOUR by Andrew Daniels
...Yes, probably, whatever. Blasphemy! I saw Dylan live yesterday, and U-G-H. I wanted to dig him, wanted to walk away deeply moved or something, but all I felt was boredom and even a little gassy. You can read a quasi-and-I-mean-really-quasi-review that I wrote this morning, but it's probably just better if I copy and paste this Gmail chat I had this morning with Matt regarding the concert. Enjoy this unfiltered and incredibly meaningful conversation from two of today's brightest young minds. Mostly this is just lazy blogging, though. Enjoy:

Stark: how was the dylan show?
me: in one word, tedious. the atmosphere was great, and
obviously it was killer to see him and willie a few feet away

me: but honestly, it was incoherent babbling. really
disappointing. should've expected it though
Stark: yeah - it's a tough thing to get through
me: i mean, admittedly i'm only a modest dylan fan, love a couple of records and am
lukewarm to the rest... most people were there for the myth more than
anything
Stark: yeah - it's so weird to look up there and think that's the same guy
Stark: you see paul simon and you're like - ok I can see how he recorded Bridge Over Troubled Water, but you see Bob and you're like - I can't believe this was the kid who wrote Hard Rain's Gonna Fall
me: yes! totally totally what i was thinking. like, it took me 3 minutes into the song to figure out that he was playing dont think twice its alright, because you couldn't
understand him and the arrangement was terrible
Stark: yeah - it's just such a weird operation
me: if it's any consolation, the band ripped, but that was one of the few bright spots
Stark: yes

Like I said, very meaningful, very bright. The point is, I didn't like Dylan, and I shouldn't feel ashamed for that but I do. WHY ALL THE INTERNAL CONFLICT? Anyway, hate to be a drag, but that's it for today. More tomorrow!

We Proudly Present....

We are thrilled and honored to announce our first sponsored show, happening May 2nd at Union Pool in Brooklyn with three of the blogosphere's biggest bands: Animal Collective, Fleet Foxes and Wavves. The staff has worked tirelessly to plan the show for close to a year -- and we'll all be in debt for approximately the next five -- but believe us, it's going to be worth it. This is just the beginning! For more information, and how to get tickets, click on the flier above. You're welcome!

Phish Fans Are Stoked, Rest Of The World Is Like, "Whatever"

Well, it's been the worst kept secret in the music world for several months, but America's favorite reunited hippies (read: Phish) are headlining two nights of the eighth annual Bonnaroo festival. (Which, you know, is completely neccessary.) The Boss is joining them, hoping to emulate his crotch-tastic Superbowl performance from Sunday, as are the Beasties, David Byrne, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails, Al Green, SNOOP DOGG, Elvis Costello, Animal Collective, MGMT, Bon Iver and a billion others. You have to give the organizers credit: minus the whole Phish thing, the lineup looks pretty okay.

We'll be trying our hardest to make it down to Manchester this year, after last year's soiree left us awed and hung over. Tickets go on sale exclusively through the festival's official Web site on Saturday (2/7) at noon. Check out a video of the announcement featuring something called "stratostencil animation" (whatever that is) after the jump. Not as good as Lewis Black, unfortunately.

Lewis Black Is Down With Bonnaroo

Mark your calendars, indie-rock fans and drug enthusiasts: the eighth annual Bonnaroo launches June 11, 2009! (Has it really been eight years? Or is it more like four great years preceded by four annual Trey Anastasio benders that nobody but hippies gave a shit about?) Yup, the fine folks at Superfly Productions and A.C. Entertainment announced this morning that tickets for 'Roo '09 go on sale this Thursday, December 4 through the end of the year. Snatch them up now. As Vince can surely attest, you're in for the experience (and subsequent hangover) of your life. There's a nifty payment plan for the tickets, but don't listen to me about it: Let Lewis violently explain in the video above. We're psyched... and only a little bit scared.
