The mysterious songwriter with the Stevie Nicks "Landslide" delivery and early Marianne Faithful rasp-on-command, delivers a beautiful new track in "Back, Baby" - the lead track from her upcoming new album and Drag City debut, On Your Own Love Again due Jan 27. Welcome back to Jessica Pratt, and to me, baby.

Out of this new generation of folk singers (see the excellent Angel Olsen as well) Jessica Pratt is at the top of her class. Her debut album was heartbreaking and impeccable. Truly, of the highest level. Here is a new song - equally as good - but with no news of a new album. Enjoy this for now.

Jessica Pratt: "Night Faces" 

Jessica Pratt is an artist you almost don't want to learn more about. They're so fantastic in that mysterious little world they've created for you through their music. The one black and white cover photo is enough. You don't care where she's from, where she recorded the album, or who she's working with. Just let the songs on her fantastic self-titled album do all the storytelling. We could go on about her influences, vocal inflections, lo-fi demo recording, etc. but we'd rather just let you listen to the songs and create your own story-line. It's more fun that way anyway, right?
