Our love of most everything having to do with good African music on this site, is fairly clear. This morning, we wanted to share this newly available treat with you: the 1975 classic Africa from Zambian psych-rock band Amanaz. Originally posted by the oft-trustworthy GVB this long out of print record recently saw limited repressing on vinyl (sold out), but is now available to everyone thanks to Now Again and Stones Throw. This record is a slow burner getting better with every listen, and an album that is absolutely worth picking up right away. You can get it on CD/MP3 here.

It feels like forever that we've been waiting for the new Girls album, Album to come out. Well, next Tuesday is the day. As agreed upon by most of the blog and indie world, this is indeed one of the best albums of the year. Genre-wise it's all over the place, but the sonic quality and production tie the whole package together extremely well. "Laura" is clearly a highlight. It's that song that you instantly recognize, and swear you've heard on the radio somewhere before. With the right moves and songs like "Laura", Girls have a legitmate chance of breaking into the music mainstream, whatever that is these days.

This morning, GVB debuted this live video of "Laura" live from the band's homebase in San Fran. The video origionally came from new Stark friends on the left coast and awesome blog Yours Truly. Enjoy with your morning MUD coffee, delicious.

Harlem Signs to Matador!

Some (more) really great news. One of our favorite new-ish bands out of Austin, TX., Harlem, just inked a multi-record deal with Matador as reported on the (bitchin') Matablog and GVB who has been a long-time champion of the kick-ass garage rock three-piece. Congrats all around! New record coming in 2010. Free Drugs is out now and freaking amazing. (We stole Matador's photo because it's awesome).

While we don't love giving Kanye's crazy-town blog credit for a lot, it seems he has dug up a gem with his post about Florida duo Blind Man's Colour. Perhaps it's due to our recent listening habits, but BMC recall Music Has the Right... era Boards of Canada, with their strong melodic sense and ambient yet highly layered production qualities. After some myspace correspondence, it seems that not only are BMC some stand-up folks, they are seemingly weeks (or days) away from announcing a newly inked deal with a yet unnamed label. This isn't surprising news given the strength of their myspace tracks, and the quality jam "The Warm Current's Pull" (via GVB) which we're offering you alongside the fantastic "Jimmy Dove." Blind Man's Colour will soon release their debut LP Season Dreaming. Video after the jump.

We are taking a break from Merriweather for awhile -- I think I have dry mouth from all the hype. Today's On The Blog Reel provides you both uppers and downers.

Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit a.k.a. the Very Best, drop their first official video under the aforementioned moniker. We are talking lo-fi here, camcorders and locals filmed in his hometown Lelongwe, Malawi, as reported by GVB. There are no shortage of smiles here, or people with more rhythm than most of us can boast. What a great song and what a great mood it evokes.

M. Ward released the title track video to his up-coming album Hold Time, dropping Feb. 17 on Merge. The video is mellow, filmed in black and white and a true testament to Matt's musical style. Relax, ride the gondola and sing along. (Video is below, Very Best after the jump.)
