Lydia Loveless: 'Somewhere Else'

While an artist seemingly operating outside the mainstream of country music, or popular indie sphere, we almost missed out on Lydia Loveless' new album - which came out today. I'm so glad we didn't. It's a stellar, perfectly crafted, and immaculately executed record. The vocals, songwriting, production, and arrangements are the perfect antidote to all the stale records out there clogging the alt-country internet tubes. Songs like "Wine Lips" and "Chris Isaak" recall Lucinda Williams at her peak (see her recently reissued S/T record with the original "Passionate Kisses"), Aimee Mann's effortless songcraft, and Rosanne Cash's emotional depth and tone. Check out this album immediately.
