Perfume Genius

Perfume Genius' debut album Learning (out now, Matador) is outstandingly refreshing and organic while at the same time, startlingly confessional. It's rare these days to hear such a stripped down album both in terms of the sonic quality and in terms of the subject matter. Seattle’s Mike Hadreas conveys raw emotion through the keys of the piano in a way that is at once immediate and arresting without ever sounding overtly cliche or obvious. While we're still working our way through the full length, our immediate reaction to the record was so strong, it was too hard not to write about it on the spot.
