Chairlift "I Belong in Your Arms" Japanese Version

This is the song of our weekend. Chairlift made a very underrated album, give it anther spin if you haven't listened in a bit. Yes, @thestarkonline, the Kool Aid is cherry flavored.

Roadside Graves Cover "Downbond Train"

It's been a moment since we checked in with our longtime buds The 'Graves. Aquarium Drunkard posted a nice piece written by lead singer John Gleason to accompany this Springsteen cover for an upcoming comp Long Distance Salvation.
This is one hell of a song and being from NJ it’s almost sinful to mess with Bruce, but I feel like we did it well and found some room to make the song our own without ruining or playing it too similar to the original.

Kisses "Johnny & Mary" Video

After recently offering an exclusive view of this video as an incentive to sign up for the Kisses mailing list (nice digital marketing idea guys), this excellent Robert Palmer cover is now viewable for all. You know we love this band - check out their new single "Funny Heartbeat" above.

New Video: Yeasayer - "Longevity"

Allah Las - "Busman Holiday"

Allah-Lahs "Tell Me What's On Your Mind"

We came upon this band a few weeks back and have been loving their self-titled debut (Sept 18th). "Busman Holiday" is more Black Lips-esque indie-psych than their previous vintage 60s Stones-fuled effort "Tell Me (What's On Your Mind)" -- both equally compelling in their own ways.

Summer is Not Over.

We're back from a week away from pretty much all "blogger" contact, and don't understand why people seem to think Labor Day is the end of the summer. It stays hot and gross pretty much all the way through September. Van She understands. This record 'Idea of Happiness' is a fantastic little gem of an album. Here's a new vid. We did not go to Jamaica.

Polica: "Dark Star" Video

Another video from one of the best albums of the year, Polica's Give You The Ghost. Recently signed to Mom + Pop - the album will get a reissue with the benefits of wider distribution, and the full label machine behind it. We just love this album so much. There is also a remix EP of select songs from the album, available now.

Sharon Van Etten: "Leonard" Video

From SVE's lovely Tramp, out now.

Youngblood Hawke: "We Come Running"

We've had this LA group on our radar for a bit, and thought today was a good day to give them a little "ink" as Universal Republic just released their self-titled EP. Already getting much love from tastemaker radio and select blogs - Youngblood Hawke have their sites set on the fun. path to success with group singalongs and huge "ohhh ohhh" choruses. Not sure if we're hearing a smash here, but we've been wrong in the past. Also, we thought fun. were terrible on Colbert last night btw.

Allah-Las: "Don't You Forget It"

Impeccably capturing a late 60s garage/surf ethos and channeling the sound through a "Play With Fire" era Rolling Stones filter, California's Allah-Las, have crafted several head turning new tracks, "Don't You Forget It" and "Tell Me What's On Your Mind." The full length (9/18 on Innovative Leisure) was produced by vintage perfectionist Nick Waterhouse (excellent in his own right). This is lo fi reverb done the right way. Critics may file this on the softer side of the Black Lips/King Khan, and lesser minds may even compare them to the lazy stylings of a Real Estate. Don't be fooled though, there's a lot more here than delay pedals and reverb knobs. VIA

The Explorers Club

Here's some immaculately executed vintage 70s AM radio jams from The Explorers Club, whose album Grand Hotel came out in February, but is just hitting our radar today. Very Dawes-like in their presentation, and very Beach Boys in their sound. An enjoyable Wednesday listen.

Kisses Premiere "Funny Heartbeat"

The press release begins with "finally." Agreed. Not in a negative manner of course, as Kisses, (and Jesse Kivel's band Princeton) have been touring and writing for the past 2 years. But, in blog years, 24 months is nearly a lifetime. Nevertheless, today is a good day, as the new Kisses tune "Funny Heartbeat" is an infectious ear worm of a late-summer gem. Produced by Saint Etienne's pop wizards Pete Wiggs and Tim Larcombe, the new track is a positive sign of things to come on Kisses' new LP. Their excellent debut The Heart of The Nightlife is out now.

New Track: Night Panther - "Fever"

Just caught this track premiere over at good old Yourstru.ly...Night Panther's "Fever." Summer nu-disco jams...not much on these guys yet. We'll keep you posted.

Antony and the Johnsons: "Cut The World"

The title track from the prolific and consistent artist's career encompassing live album, which sounds pretty excellent. Some easily recognizable faces in this one...

Vacationer: "Trip" Part Deaux

It was Vacationer's song "Trip" that first appeared on our radar in April of 2011, along with a mysterious tropical video. After signing to Downtown last year, and releasing their debut album recently, we were sent the newest incarnation of "Trip" shot with cool analog techniques, that gives a new flavor to the visuals.

Norah Jones Premieres the Unforgettable "Miriam" Video

This was immediately our favorite track on Norah Jones' gorgeous new Danger Mouse produced album Little Broken Hearts (Out now, Blue Note). "Miriam" is a standout among the many raw breakup songs on the album and may be one of the most salient condemnations of a person via song... ever? Here's the video to match.

New Track: Sweet Valley - "Suzuka 9 Hours"

This new track from Sweet Valley (A.K.A Nathan Williams of Wavves and his brother Kynan) just dropped, titled "Suzuka 9 Hours." We've been enjoying these pseudo house / DJ mixes and are excited to hear what the full length, Stay Calm is going to sound like (out 8/7 on Fool's Gold). Enjoy.
